Musket Balls
Musket balls were the standard ammunition for all troops in battle, and were commonly made of iron. These iron spheres were varied from the size of a penny to a quarter in circumference. These were fired from all muskets, and were used in every land battle of the revolution.
Bar Shot
The bar shot was a special type of cannon ammunition used during the American Revolution. The bar shot was a split cannonball with a metal bar holding the two halves together. This projectile weighed about 12 pounds, and when fired, flew in a spinning motion.
Case Shot
Case shot was a type of cylindrical canister that held either Musket balls, or iron balls. These smaller pieces of ammunition were fired out of the case, and used as an early form of grapeshot. This ammo acted as a large shotgun.
Grape Shot
Grape shot, like the case shot acted like a giant shotgun. It was used at longer range than the case shot and had a greater chance at hitting targets. It had a range of around 200 yards, shot, but very effective in close range combat.
British Broad Arrow
The British Broad Arrow was a 9 pound British cannon ball with an arrow stamped on it. The cannon was used just like an average cannon, with no special purposes.
